- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- Red and green gel food coloring
- White sanding sugar (optional for rolling)
- Beat softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in egg and vanilla.
- Add flour, baking powder, and salt. Divide dough into 3 bowls. Tint one red, one green, leave one plain.
- Roll out each dough between parchment sheets. Stack red, white, and green layers. Roll into a tight log.
- Wrap the dough log and chill for 2+ hours.
- Slice into 1/4-inch rounds, roll edges in sanding sugar if desired, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 8–10 minutes.
