- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup soft butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup sour cream or yogurt
- 1 tbsp vinegar
- 1 tbsp vanilla
- Red and green gel food colors
- 1 cup butter (for frosting)
- 16 oz cream cheese
- 6 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla (for frosting)
- Pinch salt (for frosting)
- Chopped pecans (for decor)
- Holiday sprinkles (for decor)
- Whisk dry ingredients. Beat butter + sugar till fluffy. Add eggs one by one, then buttermilk, yogurt, vinegar, and vanilla.
- Divide into 3 bowls. Color red, green, and red again. Bake 8” pans at 350°F for 25–30 mins. Cool.
- Beat frosting ingredients till smooth.
- Stack layers with frosting between. Cover outside. Top with nuts and sprinkles.
Notes
- Use gel coloring for brightness.
- Chill before slicing.
