Ingredients

Scale
  • 500g ground beef or chicken
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for sauce)
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil or parsley
  • 300g spaghetti
  • Salt for boiling water

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix ground meat, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, egg, herbs, salt, and pepper. Shape into small meatballs.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet and cook meatballs until browned on all sides. Set aside.
  3. In the same pan, add olive oil and sauté onion and garlic. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10–15 minutes.
  4. Add meatballs into the sauce and cook covered for another 10 minutes until fully cooked through.
  5. Boil spaghetti in salted water until al dente. Drain and toss lightly with a bit of sauce.
  6. Serve spaghetti topped with meatballs and more sauce. Garnish with chopped parsley or basil.

Notes

  • For extra juicy meatballs, don’t overwork the mixture.
  • Let the sauce simmer to develop deep flavor.
  • Use whole wheat or gluten-free pasta for a healthier version.
