Soft, buttery, pink-frosted sugar cookies shaped like hearts, perfect for Valentine’s Day or any special occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk or cream
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • Pink food coloring
  • Red, pink & rainbow sprinkles (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in egg and vanilla until smooth.
  5. Gradually mix in dry ingredients until soft dough forms.
  6. Roll dough to about ¼-inch thickness and cut into heart shapes.
  7. Place cookies on baking sheet and bake 9–11 minutes until just set (do NOT overbake).
  8. Cool completely before frosting.
  9. Beat frosting ingredients until creamy, tint pink, spread over cookies, and decorate with sprinkles.

Notes

  • Chill dough 20 minutes if shapes spread.
  • For glossy frosting, add 1 teaspoon corn syrup.
  • Swap vanilla frosting for cream cheese for extra richness.
