A delightful and cozy Salted Butterscotch Apple Tart that combines flaky crust, tender apples, and rich butterscotch sauce, perfect for fall.

Ingredients

  • Crust:
  • 1¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cold butter, cubed
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 34 tbsp ice water
  • Filling:
  • 4 large apples, peeled & sliced
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • Butterscotch Sauce:
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup coconut cream
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. MAKE THE CRUST: Combine flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in butter until crumbly. Add water 1 tbsp at a time until dough forms. Chill for 30 minutes.
  2. PREBAKE THE CRUST: Roll out dough into a tart pan. Prick base with a fork. Blind bake at 180°C (350°F) for 25 minutes until lightly golden.
  3. COOK THE BUTTERSCOTCH: Melt butter, add brown sugar and coconut cream. Simmer for 3 minutes, stir in salt and vanilla.
  4. PREP THE APPLES: Toss apple slices with lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, and flour.
  5. ASSEMBLE & BAKE: Spread half the butterscotch in the crust, layer apples, and bake 25–30 minutes.
  6. FINISH & SERVE: Drizzle with remaining sauce and serve warm.

Notes

  • Chill the crust for best results.
  • Use a variety of apples for a more complex flavor.
  • This tart can be served warm or at room temperature.
