Savory mushroom and cheese puff pastry tarts make an easy and delicious dinner or appetizer.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 cup cremini or baby bella mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves (plus extra for garnish)
  • 1/2 cup shredded Gruyère or mozzarella cheese
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Roll out puff pastry and cut into rectangles. Score a 1/2-inch border around each rectangle.
  2. Heat olive oil and butter in a skillet. Add mushrooms, garlic, and thyme. Cook until golden brown.
  3. Sprinkle shredded cheese inside each pastry border.
  4. Spoon mushroom mixture over the cheese, keeping it inside the border.
  5. Brush edges with egg wash. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20–25 minutes until golden.

Notes

  • Use Gruyère for a richer flavor.
  • Serve warm for best texture.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
