A festive and delicious Mille-Feuille Christmas Tree, perfect for holiday celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar (for caramel)
  • 1/3 cup fresh cranberries
  • 2 tbsp crushed pistachios
  • Fresh thyme sprigs
  • Powdered sugar
  • Star cookie or topper

Instructions

  1. Bake Puff Pastry Discs: Preheat to 375°F (190°C). Cut pastry into circles of different sizes. Bake for 15–18 minutes until golden. Cool completely.
  2. Make Vanilla Pastry Cream: Whisk milk, sugar, cornstarch, and yolks in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat until thick (about 8 minutes). Remove from heat, stir in vanilla and butter. Chill.
  3. Make Caramel Glaze: Melt 1/2 cup sugar until amber. Quickly drizzle over pastry discs.
  4. Assemble the Tree: Start with the largest disc. Add pastry cream. Layer smaller discs, alternating cream and pastry. Decorate with cranberries, pistachios, thyme, powdered sugar, and star topper. Chill for 15–30 minutes.

Notes

  • Serve slightly chilled for best texture.
  • Add extra caramel drizzle for shine.
  • Pair with warm tea or mulled wine.
  • Work quickly with caramel as it hardens fast.
  • Use cold pastry cream for clean stacking.
  • Keep layers centered for a perfect “tree” shape.
