A cheesy, spicy loaf that’s a total crowd-pleaser!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 23 fresh jalapeños, sliced (seeds removed for milder heat)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • Optional: Extra cheese & jalapeños for topping

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder.
  2. Fold in shredded cheddar and chopped jalapeños.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk buttermilk, egg, and melted butter. Pour wet mixture into the dry and stir until just combined.
  4. Transfer batter into a greased loaf pan. Sprinkle extra cheese and jalapeño slices on top.
  5. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 40–45 minutes until golden and a toothpick comes out clean. Cool slightly, slice, and enjoy warm with butter.

Notes

  • For a milder flavor, remove the seeds from the jalapeños.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
  • This bread pairs well with soups and salads.
