A delicious and easy homemade Sloppy Joe Sandwich recipe, perfect for a comforting family dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500g ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, sliced thin
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, cubed
  • 4 burger buns, toasted
  • Optional: extra bell pepper slices for crunch

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, warm olive oil and sauté onion until soft and translucent.
  2. Add garlic and green pepper, cook for 2 minutes.
  3. Stir in the ground beef, breaking it apart while browning. Cook until fully done and no longer pink.
  4. Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, soy sauce, brown sugar, paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 8-10 minutes until thick and saucy.
  5. Add cheddar cubes and stir until slightly melted into the meat.
  6. Spoon the beef mixture generously onto the toasted buns and serve immediately with fries or salad.

Notes

  • Toast your buns for a crunchier texture and to prevent sogginess.
  • Use lean ground beef or ground chicken for a lighter version.
  • For a gluten-free option, serve over baked sweet potato or gluten-free buns.
