A delicious make-ahead French toast casserole perfect for brunch or holiday mornings.

  • 1 loaf French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • Maple syrup for serving
  • Powdered sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Grease a baking dish and spread the cubed French bread evenly inside.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugars, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  3. Pour the custard evenly over the bread cubes, pressing lightly so everything absorbs. Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours or overnight.
  4. Drizzle melted butter on top and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 40–45 minutes until golden brown and set in the center.
  5. Let cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar, and pour warm maple syrup over the top.

Notes

  • For best results, refrigerate overnight.
  • Use day-old bread for better texture.
  • Adjust cinnamon to taste.
