A classic Chicken Cordon Bleu recipe featuring crispy, golden breaded chicken breasts stuffed with savory ham and Swiss cheese, served with a creamy sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 4 slices deli ham
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs (panko for extra crunch)
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil (for frying)
  • For the creamy sauce:
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Slice each chicken breast horizontally to create a pocket. Season inside and out with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
  2. Stuff each breast with 2 slices of ham and 2 slices of Swiss cheese. Secure with toothpicks if needed.
  3. Dredge chicken in flour, dip in beaten eggs, then coat in breadcrumbs mixed with Parmesan. Press firmly to adhere.
  4. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook chicken 4–5 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through. Transfer to oven (180°C / 350°F) for 8–10 minutes if needed to finish cooking.
  5. For the sauce: Melt butter in a saucepan. Whisk in flour and cook 1 minute. Gradually add milk and cream, whisking until smooth and thickened. Stir in Dijon, salt, and pepper.
  6. Slice chicken and spoon creamy sauce generously over the top. Sprinkle with fresh parsley.

Notes

  • Use panko for extra crispy coating
  • Chill stuffed chicken 15 minutes before breading for easier handling
  • Let rest 5 minutes before slicing to keep the cheese inside
