Cheese Boat Bread with Egg is a delightful and cheesy bread that is perfect for breakfast or brunch. This easy recipe results in a pillowy bread boat filled with melted cheese and a runny egg, making it a comforting and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella + cheddar blend (or any stretchy cheese)
  • 1 egg per bread
  • Fresh parsley, chopped
  • Black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix warm milk, water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and olive oil. Knead until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
  3. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  4. Divide dough into 2 balls. Roll each into an oval shape. Pinch edges inward to form a boat and twist ends to seal.
  5. Place on parchment-lined tray. Fill with cheese mix and bake for 12–15 minutes until crust is golden and cheese bubbles.
  6. Remove from oven, crack an egg in the center of each boat, and return to bake 5–7 more minutes until egg white sets but yolk stays runny.
  7. Season with black pepper and sprinkle fresh parsley. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Use bread flour for chewier crust.
  • Add spinach or mushrooms inside for extra flavor.
  • Can be shaped and frozen before final bake.
