  • 6 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cubed and cold
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (for sauce)
  • 1/4 cup butter (for sauce)
  • 1/4 cup cream (for sauce)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Vanilla ice cream, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Toss apples with lemon juice, sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch. Spread evenly in a greased baking dish.
  2. Mix oats, flour, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Rub in butter until crumbly. Sprinkle evenly over apples.
  3. Bake for 40–45 minutes, until golden and bubbling.
  4. Melt butter and brown sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in cream, vanilla, and salt. Simmer for 2–3 minutes until slightly thickened.
  5. Scoop warm crumble into bowls, top with ice cream, and drizzle with warm butterscotch sauce.

Notes

  • Add toasted nuts for extra crunch.
  • Serve immediately for the best contrast of hot and cold.
  • Store leftovers covered and reheat before serving.
